Everclear to Rock the Runners in Seattle

Race Benefits the American Cancer Society, Sponsored by Dodge

Seattle, WA – May 11, 2011 – Great music is a hallmark of the city of Seattle, making it the perfect home for the Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon benefiting the American Cancer Society. On Saturday, June 25th, 28,000 runners will celebrate a 26.2 or 13.1 milestone by rocking out to the familiar songs of Everclear, who will headline the post-race concert.

Based in the Pacific Northwest, Everclear earned early accolades and chart success with their album Sparkle and Fade and the #1 hit, “Santa Monica.” Their newest record, In A Different Light revisits some of their biggest hits, but with a different spin on songs like “I Will Buy You a New Life,” “Summerland,” “Father of Mine,” and “Wonderful.” The new set also features the never released songs “Here Comes the Darkness” and “At the End of the Day.”

Frontman Art Alexakis calls the new album an “organic” process.

“Doing the same old thing doesn’t interest me, so performing these songs the way I did ten years ago would be ridiculous. But recreating them, as the album title goes, ‘In A Different Light’ is exciting. We’re showing how the arrangements for these songs have changed over the years.”

Everclear will take the stage at the finish line festival outside Qwest Field following a thrilling and scenic race that will take participants on a running tour from Tukwila to Seattle. Friends, family and the general public are invited to attend.

“The post-race concert is a great way for everyone to unwind and celebrate their accomplishment together,” said Zoe Griesbach, Event Director. “We’re thrilled to announce Everclear as the headline act and look forward to another exciting race with a sold-out field.”

The scenic race kicks off the Seafair summer series of events. Runners will start at the Gateway Center in Tukwila, winding along beautiful Lake Washington with views of stunning Mt. Baker and Seward Park before an exciting downtown finish at Qwest Field. Along each mile of the 26.2 and 13.1 mile courses, local bands will highlight the best of the area’s renowned music scene while motivating and entertaining runners as they push through the distance.

Race weekend will kick off with a two-day Health and Fitness Expo presented by Power Balance at the Qwest Event Center, featuring more than one hundred fitness retailers, exhibits and interactive clinics on Thursday, June 23rd and Friday, June 24th.

Dodge will be the title sponsor of the event, showcasing its new line of Dodge vehicles throughout race weekend and hosting their charitable “Ride and Drive” program, allowing participants to test drive new vehicles. Each test drive will result in a charitable donation of $20 from Dodge.

The race benefits the American Cancer Society, through the fundraising efforts of DetermiNation athletes training to participate in the Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon.
