Local Bands to Rock 26.2 Musical Miles
Sold-out event kicks off Seafair summer of events
Seattle, WA – June 9, 2011 – There’s nothing quite like miles of live, outdoor concerts to make it feel like summer. The Seafair summer of events kicks off Saturday, June 25th with the Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon benefiting the American Cancer Society, featuring more than 40 local bands along the 26.2 and 13.1 mile course.
The sounds of Seattle’s best live acts will feature a variety of genres, including rock, pop, hip hop, reggae and blues. Bands like Bucket of Honey, In Cahoots, the Furniture Girls, Fox and the Law and School of Rock will perform on stages along every mile of the running tour from Tukwila to Seattle. The gig gives local musicians the chance to play for a crowd of more than 26,000 runners from across the country.
“There’s no question that Seattle offers one of the most unique and well-known local music scenes in the country,” said Zoe Griesbach, Event Director. “We really try to highlight the diverse musical talent here in the local area as part of the overall experience our runners look forward to and we’re extremely proud of our lineup this year.”
A full list of bands and their locations are available at Competitor.com.
The scenic race kicks off the Seafair series of events, Seattle’s traditional summer festival that is a signature of the Northwest. Offering a wide variety of free community events for more than 60 years, Seafair brings the city together for the Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle event.
“We’re thrilled to see the continued success of this event.” said Beth Knox, CEO of Seafair. “Local music is an important element of Seattle culture and we love to see it celebrated along with a healthy, fitness-focused weekend as we look toward another successful year of Seafair.”
Runners will start at the Gateway Center in Tukwila, winding along beautiful Lake Washington with views of stunning Mt. Baker and Seward Park before an exciting downtown finish at Qwest Field. Ending the event on a musical high note, Everclear will headline a free post-race concert, open to race participants, spectators and the general public.
Race weekend will kick off with a two-day Health and Fitness Expo presented by Power Balance at the Qwest Event Center, featuring more than one hundred fitness retailers, exhibits and interactive clinics on Thursday, June 23rd and Friday, June 24th.
Dodge will be the title sponsor of the event, showcasing its new line of Dodge vehicles throughout race weekend. The race benefits the American Cancer Society, through the fundraising efforts of DetermiNation athletes training to participate in the Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon.
