Sugar Ray to Headline Rock ‘n’ Roll Pasadena Half Marathon benefiting Cure Mito

Southern California Sounds of Triple-Platinum Rock Band to Highlight Inaugural Event; Race Registration Available At Competitor.com

Pasadena, CA  (January 13, 2012) – The Rose Bowl will host a rocking weekend in February as Sugar Ray takes the stage as the headliner for the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Pasadena Half Marathon benefiting Cure Mito on Sunday, February 19, 2012. The post-race concert will take place at the finish line festival outside the Rose Bowl, immediately following the race.

“Our inaugural Pasadena event is going to be a true Rock ‘n’ Roll experience,” said Elizabeth O’Brien, VP, Event Management “Sugar Ray is an entertaining, vibrant group, and they’re the perfect fit to keep the party going while celebrating our participants’ achievements.  We are thrilled to have them perform at our post-race concert this year.”

Known for their unique combination of sunny pop, combined with funky hip-hop and reggae, Sugar Ray hit the mainstream in a big way with their second album, Floored and the smash hit “Fly,” which went double platinum. The band’s next album, 14:59, was an even bigger success, going triple platinum with songs like “Every Morning” and “Someday.” To date, Sugar Ray has sold more than 8 million records worldwide and is set to release a new album this summer.

Runners will tour the city as the sounds of live, local bands playing along the course motivate and entertain. Enthusiastic cheerleaders and thousands of spectators will also join in, making the 13.1 mile distance unlike any other race experience.

The race will start and finish at the iconic Rose Bowl, passing over the Colorado Bridge, through Old Town Pasadena and around the Brookside Golf Course. Runners will enjoy the sights of numerous scenic landmarks, including the Tournament House, the Norton Simon Museum and more. After crossing the finish line, runners will join family and friends to celebrate their accomplishment at the finish line festival and Sugar Ray concert.

Race weekend will begin Friday, February 17 with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Pasadena Convention Center. The Expo, which will be free and open to the public, will showcase the latest in running products and services with interactive clinics from fitness experts.
