St. Petersburg, FL  – The sunshine filled streets of historic St. Pete will welcome more than 8,000 runners on Sunday, February 12, 2012 as the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Pete Half Marathon debuts.

The race course will take runners through one of Florida’s most welcoming cities, with a convenient start at Tropicana Field. Participants will then run alongside Central Avenue’s unique downtown shops and restaurants, past the iconic Dali museum and VinoyRenissance Resort, and along the beautiful waterfront before an exhilarating finish at North Shore Park. Finishers can literally dip their toes in the ocean upon completing the 13.1 mile distance.

“We really wanted to showcase the unique character of St. Pete and of course, take runners along the beautiful waterfront,” said Adam Zocks, General Manager. “This is a perfect winter destination city that people from across the country will want to visit and there’s no better way to tour the city than on foot as a participant in this inaugural race.”

Along their journey through St. Pete, local musicians will keep runners motivated and entertained as live bands play on stages each mile of the course. Enthusiastic cheerleaders and the encouragement of thousands of spectators bring together a unique running experience only found at a Rock ‘n’ Roll event. A special Spectator Party will take place between Mile 3 and 4 in front of Fusion 1560 and Ferg’s Sports Bar and Grill, welcoming neighbors to cheer on the runners together.

As runners relax by the ocean and celebrate their accomplishment, they will enjoy a rockin’ post-race concert and beer garden at the Finish Line Festival in North Shore Park. Past Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon concert headliners have included Seal, Blues Traveler, Journey, B-52s, Goo Goo Dolls and Bret Michaels.

Race weekend kicks off on Friday, February 10th with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo at Tropicana Field, home of the Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays. The Expo, which will be free and open to the public, will showcase the latest in running products and services with interactive clinics from fitness experts.
