San Antonio, TX – Sept. 28, 2012 – The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & 1/2 Marathon benefiting Susan G. Komen™ today announced the addition of a new 3-mile “Mini Marathon” to the 2012 race, which takes place on Sunday, November 11, 2012. The Mini Marathon will feature all the excitement and fanfare of race day, with the same start line downtown and separate finish line in front of the historic Alamo, three-miles into the marathon and ½ marathon courses.

“The shorter distance is a great way for runners to get a taste of the full marathon or half-marathon experience,” said Kim Messey, Event Director. “Now anyone can enjoy bands and cheer squads along the course as well as the much anticipated headlining performance by Jo Dee Messina. Additionally, the Mini Marathon can act as a stepping stone for participants who are interested in getting involved in running a longer distance in the future.”

Mini runners will receive the same perks as the marathon and half marathon participants including an official race tech tee; a finisher medial and certificate; one (1) complimentary beer courtesy of Michelob Ultra; and access to the finish line concert featuring Jo Dee Messina. The Mini Marathon registration is $40 for the first 250 participants and $45 thereafter until the expo. To register, please visit runrocknroll.competitor.com/san-antonio.

The 26.2 and 13.1-mile Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio courses will run past many of the city’s historic sites and parks, while featuring live bands and cheerleaders along the way. With ideal fall weather, San Antonio offers the perfect destination for a running vacation that combines athletic conquests with a weekend getaway in Texas’ cultural hot spot.

In addition to the Mini Marathon distance, the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Bike Tour will take participants along 22 miles of the full marathon course. Participants also have the opportunity to partake in a 2-Person Half Marathon Relay, which allows teams to split the distance into 7.9 mile and 5.2 mile legs.

Race weekend begins with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo where all participants go to pick up their race number. For the first time in the five-year history of the event, the expo will take place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center instead of the Alamodome. It will feature more than 100 running and fitness retailers, exhibits and clinics.
