Running for Chase Kowalski, Sandy Hook Victim
Although she has participated in six other marathons, the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst
Rock ‘n’ Roll USA 1/2 Marathon holds a greater value to Margaret Walsh. Running in honor of Sandy Hook victim, Chase Kowalski, Margaret and her friend Maureen Gutowski are raising funds for the Chase Kowalski Memorial Fund.
Chase Kowalski was an active little boy who loved riding his bike and running and completed (and won) his first triathlon at age 6. The memorial fund was established by Chase’s mother, Becky after the tragic loss of her son in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
She has a dream of building a community center in his honor and Maureen and Margaret are working to help that dream come true. “Even though I am raising money for one family, I will run each of the 26 miles with the names of the 26 victims in my heart” stated Margaret. Special race shirts were designed with all 26 victims’ names on the back. Margaret and Maureen will be wearing these shirts race day to run for all of those affected by this tragedy and celebrate the spirits of those who lost their lives.
