Run with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon Pace Team

The 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon presented by HumanaVitality Pace Team is presented by Chicago Endurance Sports.  Their team will help pace you to your best half marathon yet.  Whether you want guidance and support as you strive to finish your first half marathon or you are running for a new PR – the CES Pace Team will get you there.

The Chicago Endurance Sports Pacers will lead groups for the following finish times:

  • 1:30 (6:52 pace)
  • 1:35 (7:15 pace)
  • 1:45 (8:00 pace)
  • 1:50 (8:32 pace)
  • 2:00 (9:09 pace)
  • 2:15 (10:18 pace) Pacers run continuously
  • 2:30 (11:27 pace) *
  • 2:45 (12:35 pace) **
  • 3:00 (13:45 pace) Pacers walk continuously

* Two pacers will run continuously and two pacers will Run-Walk 5/1 (run 5 minutes/walk 1 minute) repeatedly.
** Pacers will Run-Walk at a 5 run/1 walk ratio

Who are the Pace Leaders?

All Chicago Endurance Sports pacers are experienced runners and run-walkers, leading the Chicago Endurance Sport’s Half Marathon Training Program. Each pacer is capable of running 10-15 minutes faster than the time they are pacing allowing them the ability to direct, instruct and motivate participants throughout the race.

Why run with a Pace Leader?

Following a pace leader eliminates any guesswork and/or race strategy. Participants who are looking for a personal record or those who simply have trouble pacing themselves over 13.1 miles benefit the most from running with a pacer.

What is the Pace Team strategy?

All Chicago Endurance Sports pace leaders maintain a consistent pace throughout this flat, fast race course. Because of the mass start and crowds of runners, the first mile may not be the most accurate. However, the pace leaders will make-up any time difference gradually throughout the 13.1 mile course.

How do I find the Pace Leader on race day?

On race day there will be (1-2) pace leaders per pace group lined up in the corrals with the rest of the runners. Pace leaders will be carrying bright signage that denotes the goal finish time (e.g. 2:00 = 2 hour chip time finish). The sign will be attached to a stick so that it is visible throughout the race.

How do I sign up for the Pace Team?

It’s FREE and easy! Simply line up at the race start line area 15-20 minutes before the race starts to find your pace leader. Look for your pace leader and line up in that group. You do not need to register or sign up for the Chicago Endurance Sports Pace Team.

While at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon Expo, stop by the Chicago Endurance Sports booth to meet pace leaders, talk to the coaches and ask questions.
