Kerry Seal –

Kerry has lived in the Raleigh area since 2000 and began running competitively in 2007. A friend started talking to him about running and asked him to join her family at Disney for the 2008 Goofy Challenge.  Always interested in a good challenge, he decide to start running more consistently and completed the Cannonball Half Marathon in Greensboro, NC in October of 2007 in a time of 1:46:28; that year he completed three more half marathon with a final time of 1:34:09.  Early the next year he did complete the Goofy Challenge and since that time has finished 157 races; including 112 half marathons and 15 marathons.

Kerry wears many different hats both literally and figuratively including his recent position as an Ambassador of Rock for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & Half Marathon; full-time position at Fleet Feet Sports Raleigh, Active Ambassador for Team Aquaphor, Team X-1 Audio and a Tester for Reebok.  Some would also say he has a fetish for running shoes with approximately 40 pairs currently in his closet, half of which are still boxes!

Angela Elliot –

Angela is a busy mom of 3-year-old twin girls and small-business owner of an event and wedding coordinating company here in Raleigh, NC. She began running at the age of 13 and hasn’t looked back ever since. She and her twin sister ran cross country at the College of Charleston (go Cougars!) and she has run a bazillion 5Ks, lots of 10Ks, a handful of half marathons, and the NYC marathon once.

When she became housebound and restless juggling the tasks of caring for infant twins, she realized in order to keep her sanity she needed to start moving again and get out of the house. She put her girls in a jogging stroller as small babies and took off running; she stills run with them in their stroller today!

Having her family engaging in physical activities and her small children seeing her run and exercise is a really important lifestyle she is trying to instill in their household. She finds herself doing a lot of cross training at the YMCA to keep things fresh and balanced, and sets small goals for fun races – like the Rock n’ Roll Raleigh Half Marathon!

Celia Mitchell-

Celia began running competitively in 2006. She initially started running with a team in Raleigh just to meet some new friends who were active and to train for her first full marathon.

She has now run 14 marathons, numerous half marathons and of course lots of 5ks. She has participated in 3 Boston Marathons and plans on returning in 2014, it is her favorite marathon to run. She says, “It is such a celebration of all the hard work put into the previous year to qualify. I enjoy seeing runners of all abilities meet their goals…whether it is to run their first 5K, half marathon or full marathon!”

When Celia is not running or promoting Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh, she strives as a sales manager for a Travel Management company in Raleigh. Running or not, she loves being active and outdoors!

Shalama Jackson (Based in Columbia, SC)

Shalama lives in South Carolina and has been running longer distances in 2009. A friend began planting the seeds of the idea of running a half marathon. The journey to Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon with Team in Training was just the beginning of what has flourished to quite a few 5Ks, 10Ks, and 5 half marathons as of February 2013.

Shalama has a busy schedule as she is training for a few and winter half marathons, which will lead her to her first full marathon in early 2014. She also passionate about the health benefits that have come along with running and leading a healthier lifestyle. With a new passion and renewed energy, she spends a great deal of time on the pavement as a Black Girls RUN! Columbia (SC) ambassador.

If you can’t find her on the pavement, you can find her in the gym or running around with her godson.
