Independence National Park

 Liberty Bell Center

liberty-bell-photocredit-GPTMCThe Liberty Bell was cast in London and sent to the then Philadelphia State House in 1753, which is now known as Independence Hall. The Liberty Bell measures in at 12 feet in circumference, weighing 2,080 pounds. While in the Liberty Bell Center check out the historic documents on display and learn about all the myths surrounding the bell.

Hours: Walk-up tickets are available for pick up at the Independence Visitor Center the day of starting at 8:30 am. Arrive early… tickets can run out.

Rocky Statue/Steps

 Sylvester Stallone’s character, Rocky Balboa, was immortalized in bronze in 1980. It resides at the bottom of the PA Museum of Art stairs. The statue is quite possibly one of Philadelphia’s most famous pieces of art. Just as famous, are “The Rocky Steps,” which make their cameo in the epic Rocky music montage scene. They lead up to the East Entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of art. Make sure to recreate the famous scene!

Schuylkill River Trail

This path runs along the Schuylkill River for 23 miles from Center City Philadelphia to Valley Forge National Historical Park in Montgomery County. Most of the trail is 10 to 12 feet wide paved surface with grassy shoulders. There are multiple access points, which can be found on their website


 Kelly Drive

Run like a local, and check out Kelly Drive. Philly Runners use the Kelly Drive loop for their Saturday club runs. Head along Kelly Drive next to the river, following Kelly Drive. Turn left onto Falls Bridge to cross the river. Take a left onto W. River Drive. Continue onto Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and follow this along the river, until you meet Spring Garden Drive. Take this and head back across the river, follow it until it meets up with Kelly Drive. Circle around the art museum, heading back up Kelly Drive to Lloyd Hall where you started. Lloyd Hall serves as a recreation center with public restrooms available during their business hours.

 Rocky Run

If you are going to check out the Rocky Statue and Steps… Why not throw your shoes on and go for a run? Starting at the parking lot head down S. 22nd St toward Market St. Take a left onto Locust St, passing through Rittenhouse Square. Take a quick right onto N. 10th St, followed by a left onto Spruce St, and another quick left onto 8th St. Take a right onto Locust and follow that around Washington Square (home of Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier). Taking a left onto S. 5th St where you will pass through Independence Mall State Park with the Independence Hall on your left. Take a left onto Market St. as you head back toward the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Take a right onto S. 12th St followed by a left onto Arch St running right past the Philadelphia Convention Center and Reading Terminal Market. Head down Arch as you pass JFK Plaza (home to the famous LOVE statue) and follow Arch Street as it takes a right and becomes Race Street, following Race Street around Logan Square. Continue up Benjamin Franklin Parkway, heading straight through Eakins Oval, taking a left as you run past the famous Rocky Steps and Rocky Statue! As you following Eakins Oval back around, head back down taking a right onto 24th St, and following it back to where you started!

 West Philly

Starting at the corner of 45th St and Locust, head on Locust towards S. 43rd St. Follow Locust through the University of Philadelphia campus. Take a left when you hit Spruce St. Follow Spruce St. and continue when it turns into South St at S. 33rd st. Follow South across the river, and take a left onto S. 27th St, followed by a quick right onto Lombard St. Turn left onto 11th St go down 5 blocks and take a left onto Locust. Run through Rittenhouse Square, and head out on Walnut St, which you take you back across the river to the west side. Take a left onto 45th St, which you wil take you right back to where you started.
