Raleigh, NC – February 6, 2014 – As 12,500 pairs of tired legs cross the finish line on Sun., April 13, the pumping beats and rocking sound of New Politics will keep race participants on their feet a little longer as they celebrate their 13.1 or 26.2 mile accomplishment at the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon presented by WRAL benefiting The V Foundation. The Danish trio of rockers will headline the post-race concert at Red Hat Amphitheater, which is free and open to the public.

After finding major success in the U.S. with their self-titled debut in 2010, the members of New Politics moved from their native Denmark to New York, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live and impressing fans on the road with their dynamic live shows. Their new album, A Bad Girl in Harlem, reflects their experience moving overseas and combines their original punk rock sound with a pop flavor. Hits like “Harlem” and “Tonight You’re Perfect” are already climbing radio charts and earning New Politics a place in the U.S. mainstream music scene.

“They have great energy and I think that’s exactly what participants and spectators will be expecting at the finish line. This is truly a community celebration and we hope friends, families, and residents of Raleigh will come out and watch the runners and join them at the concert afterwards,” said Alan Culpepper, Event Director.

In its first year, the race has sold out with 12,500 participants. Limited spots remain available by signing up to run with Team V, the charity training team of The V Foundation. The V Foundation is the official race charity partner of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon, founded by the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State Basketball coach.  Net proceeds of Team V will benefit cancer research and related programs.  Runners can join the cause by running for Team V at www.run4v.org.

Offering a unique twist on running, the 26.2 marathon and 13.1 mile half marathon will line the streets of Raleigh with live, local bands, motivating cheerleaders and enthusiastic spectators. Participants will start on S. Salisbury Street and will view landmarks like the Governor’s Mansion, Rose Garden, Oakwood neighborhood, Pullen Park and the iconic Daily Planet at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences as well as the North Carolina State campus before finishing on Fayetteville Street downtown.

Volunteers are still needed, and those looking for a way to get involved with race day can sign up online at RunRocknRoll.com/Raleigh/Volunteer. Families and friends can cheer on their favorite runner while participating in a great community event by joining the Race Crew with positions available at the start line, finish line, Health & Fitness Expo and along the course.

Event weekend will begin with a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Raleigh Convention Center where all participants go to pick up their race number. The expo will feature dozens of running and fitness retailers, exhibits with free nutritional samples and a series of interactive clinics with running experts and pro athletes.
