Meet San Diego is Awesome | Pia
Ever wonder who’s standing next to you in your corral at the start line, or cheering you on when you’re about to give up during a race? We’ll be featuring guest bloggers that have a passion for Rock ‘n’ Roll and inspire us by their dedication and commitment to the sport of running. You may recognize their faces, but the purpose of these posts is to put a face behind the name to better understand their journey to self-discovery.
I always hated running when I was younger (I avoided it completely!). Even once I got into sports in high school, I never enjoyed it. Starting in high school, I got in to health and wellness. That changed everything. I’d read, try new things and experiment with what felt right and what worked with my body. During college, I gave running a try. I ran a 3 mile race through Balboa Park. I loved the experience!
Running helps keep me healthy and gives my competitive nature an outlet. Even if I only pass one person, I feel the thrill of victory in a race.
I love the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. I did the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon 5 years ago and I’ve volunteered at the start line numerous years. I think it’s one of the most exciting races out there and the only thing stopping me from traveling around and doing all of them is they haven’t hired me as a traveling runner yet.
Reasons to run Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego in 2014: Beautiful course, nice weather, music and entertainment everywhere (I don’t even need an iPod because there’s so much to see and enjoy), benefits a great charity (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), great expo with lots of goodies, fun costumed runners (such as lots of Elvis impersonators), friendly people and it’s well organized (which is so important and you only realize this if you’ve done a poorly organized event).

“It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard…is what makes it great.” A League of Their Own
