Chelsea Arthurs of Raleigh, NC, had struggled with her weight when she was 15 years old.
“My parents went through a tough divorce and my dad suffered from addiction issues, and that is when I really started to turn to food for comfort and did a lot of emotional eating. Prior to that, I was very active in cheer-leading and softball and was a fit and active child and young teenager.”
By graduation, Chelsea was nearing 200 lbs and continued to gain in her college years. At 28 years old, Chelsea was suffering from high blood pressure, joint and back pain.
“I was still using food as my “drug” to deal with my emotions. It was not a fun place to be at all and at 241 lbs, I had hit rock bottom.”
Convinced by her best friend to audition for The Biggest Loser, Chelsea saw an opportunity to change her life and stop spiraling out of control. She lost 95 lbs on the show and is continuing her journey back at home in Raleigh.

“One of the goals I had going to the Biggest Loser Ranch was learning how to run – and boy did I! With the help of the trainers out there, I literally went from barely being able to run for a few minutes, to being able to run 5K’s (or longer) all the time at the Ranch – it was awesome! Since I have been home, running has become a passion of mine and is something I really enjoy, and my dog loves it too!”
On Sunday April 13, Chelsea will be among the 12,500 runners at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Half Marathon, her very first 13.1 mile distance. Alongside her will be the same best friend who encouraged her to sign up for The Biggest Loser.
“I am so pumped for my first half marathon! My weight loss journey has been incredible, and I am so happy with where I am today. I finally have become the woman that I ALWAYS wanted to be and feel that my “outside” now reflects who I am “inside.” I’m excited to have this second chance at my life and to live a healthy lifestyle because there is so much to live for.”
If you would like to hear more of Chelsea’s story, she will be speaking at 10:00 AM on Saturday April 12, 2014, at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Health Fitness Expo Presented by Sof Sole
