Meet Erica Hulings | Denver Legacy Runner
Ever wonder who’s standing next to you in your corral at the start line, or cheering you on when you’re about to give up during a race? As runners we all have a story, a motivation to run whether it’s a personal challenge, to stay fit, bond with friends, raise money for charity, or work through a difficult time.
Denver local Erica Hulings, started running 5 years ago after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She spent over a year trying to figure out the root of her joint pain, and when she was diagnosed she pledged to start moving again.
It was when Erica joined her friend’s running group that her health started to improve. She signed up for her first half marathon in August 2010 , finishing the race with a sense of pride and accomplishment. She decided she would run her second race with her running group at the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon that October.
“After the first race I had such a sense of accomplishment. I love that there are so many participants and seeing the stream of people running down the road together, is such a sense of camaraderie,” she recalls.
Erica will be returning to the Janus Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon on October 19th, 2014 as a 5-year legacy runner. The scenic course through downtown Denver, the energy of the spectators, cheerleaders, and motivational sign holders keep her coming back for more.
“I have gone through a lot in 5 years including getting married, and running has been a constant through all of it. I dread the day that I cannot run this race, I plan on being there on the 20th Anniversary.”
