
The second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon came down to the wire, as Englishman Craig Hopkins and Aissa Dghoughi of Morocco were neck and neck through the final mile. Hopkins, 24, a University of Portland graduate, was able to pull ahead for the win in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 35 seconds with Dghoughi finishing two seconds back.

As a leukemia survivor, Lynnette Wilcox is an inspiration to the team of athletes preparing for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon. As they gather each week in Portland’s parks to train, they hear stories like Lynnette’s and are reminded of the reason they joined the team – to raise funds to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s cancer research. Live bands will mark every mile along the route, enlivening the race experience with a wide variety of Portland-borne sounds. Local acts like Geno Michael & Soulcity (soul/funk/R&B), Randy Foote & the Skankin’ Yankees (reggae) and Running with Scissors (rock) will mix with diverse styles like Portland Taiko, a group of Japanese drummers, and Portland School of Rock, fronted by local students who play like professionals.
