New Orleans: Entertainment
Thank you to the Dirty Dozen Brass Band for being our Headlining Act at the Post-Race Concert at the Finish Line Festival! Stay tuned for our 2014 lineup!
The party has only just begun as you cross the finish line at Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans. New Orleans’ rich musical history will be on display for runners and spectators as The Dirty Dozen Brass Band takes the stage following the 4th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon & ½ Marathon on Sunday, February 24th.
Born 35 years ago in New Orleans, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band began as a house band for the Dirty Dozen Social and Pleasure Club, providing funeral processions for the community, often followed by jubilant dance parties. Today, the seven-member ensemble has revitalized big brass music by infusing it with funk, bebop and even reggae, and keeping crowds on their feet with high octane performances. Their music has been featured on the albums of David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dr. John, Buckwheat Zydeco, Dave Matthews Band, Modest Mouse, Widespread Panic, and the Black Crowes. In 2012, the band released a new album, TWENTY DOZEN, celebrating their 35th anniversary and showcasing their quintessential sound mixed with a Caribbean flavor.
Live Music Every Mile
Music makes up the heart and “sole” of this event. Live bands will be performing a variety of music from alternative, classic and punk rock to blues, jazz and soul along each mile of the race course. The bands set the tempo for this marathon party, where runners and spectators alike will be “dancin’ in the streets” to these mini-concerts.
